You got a great answer to your question about counterpoise so I wont rehash that. I've used a g7fek for a couple of years now, and it works great even if your configuration isn't optimal. For example, on mine, I have the feedpoint 6 feet above ground, and instead of running counterpoise, I ran two long radial with the last 15 feet or so elev I was intrigued by the concept because the 450 ohm ladder line was being used as two parallel Wires.
